As you prepare for your summer schedule, please don’t forget to plan time for reading activities! Research is clear, students can experience “summer loss” that can be equivalent to three months of learning if they don’t read throughout the summer. Faith Christian Academy has made it a priority to prevent “summer loss” and keep our student’s skills sharp by encouraging them to read all summer.
The purpose of Faith Christian Academy’s summer reading is to encourage students to become lifelong readers. This year, we are providing students with fun and engaging ways to practice their reading skills. Attached you will find reading assignments for each level. The reading fun begins May 8, 2017 and ends September 8, 2017! Each child will also be required to complete a series of projects based on the books they read throughout the program’s 18 weeks. We expect all students to participate in summer reading activities by reading books and/or listening to stories read aloud (for students who cannot yet read). In September, all students are required to bring in their projects for the books that they have read. |

As an incentive, we will be holding a reading competition. I will be taking the students with the most books read, per class division (Pre-K/Kinder, Elementary, Middle School, & High School), out to lunch. In order to compete, the student must complete projects for each book read.
I hope everyone enjoys their summer activities and reading endeavors, learning a little more day by day.
In Christ’s Love,
Ms. Jiana Moux
